Whale watching

The best period for whale watching is between mid June and the end of September.

Did you know:

The minke whale is named after a Norwegian Whaler "Miencke" who often harpooned minke whales mistaking them for blue whales. The crew thereafter jokingly referred to these animals as “Meincke’s whales” and the name eventually caught on.

Wildlife

Look out for Skye's abundant wildlife including Golden Eagles, Corncrakes and Otters.

1¼ hour trip - visiting Ascrib Island

For the early risers and for those before they catching the ferry across to the Outer Hebrides - visiting the Ascrib Island in the beautiful Sea Loch Snizort watching the seals sunbathe on the craggy rocks or playing in the water around our RIB.

Trip times: 10am, 12 noon

3 hour trip - visiting Ascrib Island, Duntulm Castle, Floddigarry

Join us on a on an exiting and exhilarating trip on skye_Xplorer around the north of the Trotternish peninsular- visiting the Ascrib Island, crossing back and cruise pass the dramatic Duntulm Castle. Rounding the very north of Skye Rubha Hunish looking out for basking sharks, dolphins and puffins as we travel along the dramatic coastline. At Floddigarry we pause for the stunning views of the Quiraing.

6 hour trip (1½ ashore) - visiting Ascrib Island, Coral Beach, Dunvegan Castle

Join us on the ultimate skye_Xplorer experience. Set off from Uig Pier visiting the resident seal colony at Ascrib Islands and rounding Waternish Point. Cruise around the headlands with the dramatic cliffs. Between April and July we should see plenty of Puffins! Hopefully we will spot porpoises, Dolphin or even a Minke Whales. Approaching Dunvegan we will pass Coral beach (and yes we are still in Skye despite the Caribbean feel) spot the copious seals and the majestic Castle. We will have then 1½ hours ashore to explore the castle and beautiful gardens. Returning back to the boat for refreshment and then returning back to Uig.
